Denox plants – Improving environmental performance

Each of Wien Energie’s thermal plants is constantly being upgraded with state-of-the-art technology and filter systems with a view to keeping emissions to an absolute minimum. As early as 1989, Wien Energie Fernwärme constructed the first European DeNOx plant (denitrification plant) at Spittelau. Further thermal waste treatment plants were to follow, with Europe’s largest DeNOx plant coming online in June 2005 at the Simmeringer Haide site.

DeNO plants are not only able to meet legally required emission standards, including the NOx standard of 100 mg per cubic metre in force since 28 December 2005, but even keep well below these. In this way, Wien Energie makes a significant contribution to improving air quality in Vienna.
