Local heating

Local heating is distributed on a smaller scale and at a relatively low temperature. Energiecomfort, a subsidiary of Wien Energie, has specialised in this field. Energiecomfort operates a number of biomass communal heating projects in Lower Austria, Styria and Tyrol, and, as of the end of 2008, will bring an additional network online in neighbouring Bavaria.
By reducing dependency on fossil fuels, these projects help to cut greenhouse gas emissions. An example of this is the biomass local heating network in Trumau which, with a connected load of 5 MW, reduces the amount of CO₂ emitted annually by approximately 1,700 tonnes.
