In addition to its core operations of supplying customers in the Greater Vienna metropolitan area with energy services, Wien Energie is also active in a number of complimentary business areas such as energy management and facility management. These activities are pursued as a means of optimising the use of synergy effects and existing know-how.

Wien Energie’s subsidiary Wienstrom has succeeded in setting up a system using Wienstrom real-time positioning (WEP), which makes it possible to precisely identify the location of movable (and immovable) objects in real-time and in 3-D within the supply area.
The benefit of real-time positioning is not derived from monitoring but from coordination – snow ploughs or spreaders, for example, can operate in exactly the right area during heavy snowfall. WEP makes it possible to find installations such as power lines or water pipes with little effort, making it a particularly useful instrument for surveyors, construction companies, utility companies, technical agencies, urban planners and cultural technicians.
Real-time positioning is currently available in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland, as well as in northern Styria.
