Wien Energie guarantees the daily supply of gas, electricity and heating for its customers, and it is also one of the largest employers in the Greater Vienna metropolitan area. At the end of the 2007/2008 business year, the company employed a total of 5,441 employees. The fluctuation rate is very low at around 3%, and employees remain with the Group for an average of just over 17 years. The proportion of female employees in the company is currently 17.8%.
As far as its attitude towards employees is concerned, the motto of Wien Energie is clear: united we stand, divided we fall. Team work is all-important, because top quality work can only be guaranteed in the long term by those who can identify with their company; and, of course, by those who obtain the necessary skills along their career path.
The qualifications and skills of its employees are the key to Wien Energie’s past, present and future success. Special training centres have been set up at each of the operational subsidiaries of Wien Energie, serving as interfaces with the training centre operated by the parent company. In addition to specialist training courses which mostly take place on site in the relevant business units, other key training foci include personality development, team building and working practices. In each of the companies, emphasis is placed on improving the know-how of employees and enabling them to forge new contacts at specialist seminars and conferences.

Laying the foundations for top quality training for its newest employees is accorded particularly high priority at Wien Energie. The training of a total of 173 apprentices (32 of which are female), who then went on to complete their apprenticeship at Wien Energie in 2007/2008, is viewed as a vital investment in the future. Courses on welding, payroll and safety, for example, are cross-checked with the syllabi followed at professional colleges. In addition to this, emphasis is placed on developing self-reliance, team building and customer orientation skills. Excursions, visits to exhibitions, careful preparation for the final examination and a variety of additional qualifications (such as the ECDL test, SAP courses, etc) nicely round off the comprehensive training programme.
