A total of 5,441 employees were employed by Wien Energie and its business divisions at the end of the 2007/2008 business year, excluding those on maternity leave, those on military service and apprentices. Due to a series of process optimisations and increases in efficiency, the headcount fell by around 1% during the year. Around 66% of personnel were originally assigned to Wien Energie from the City of Vienna – and are therefore officially employed in the status of civil servants. The remaining 34% hold employment contracts based on so-called collective agreements.
The legal basis for this unique situation is the Wiener Stadtwerke – Allocation Act (Zuweisungsgesetz) which burdens the Group not only with the costs for active employees, but also with the pension payments for already retired personnel. During the reporting period, this related to 4,495 people.
When comparing industry benchmarks for personnel expenses, the figure for Wien Energie is neither high nor low. This demonstrates that Wien Energie is competitive even despite the additional burden for pensions.
